Myo Naing Oo was thrown into the deep end in implementing Corporation’s Gold Energy Company’s (GE) solar PV projects.
The father of two girls joined GE straight after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from the prestigious Yangon Technological University. Most of his career in GE had involved duties related to his training in mechanical engineering. He rose to become the head of heavy machinery for the Group where he oversaw a fleet of over 500 vehicles.
His career took an unusual turn when he was placed in charge of implementing the group’s second solar PV project at Taungdaw Gwin. When work started in December 2021, Myo Naing Oo had to oversee electrical engineering matters related to power management. These included installing and electrification of solar panels and inverters, and the construction of nearly 6.05 miles of transmission lines.
“It was challenging for a mechanical engineer to take on a role involving advanced electrical engineering specifications. But I gained substantial experience from supporting the implementation of our first project at Thapyay Wa. I am grateful for the experience and trust that Gold Energy Company has placed in me to oversee the Taungdaw Gwin project,” said Myo Naing Oo.
The Taungdaw Gwin project was commissioned on, approximately 10 months ahead of schedule. The mechanical engineer has passed his biggest test to date.
Drawing upon the experience from Thapyay Wa, we improved our efficiency significantly, and completed Taungdaw Gwin in 10 months – ahead of schedule – despite the many challenges faced in 2020 and 2021. Having overcome the constraints of the pandemic and domestic issues, Taungdaw Gwin marks yet another significant project under our belt, and reflects the strength of our management team and domain expertise in executing infrastructure projects across Myanmar over the past three decades.
We are proud to have made a difference in Myanmar’s national electrification efforts, and remain committed to increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the national grid. In so doing, Gold Energy Company is fulfilling its vision to be a trusted partner in nation building.”
