Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a cornerstone of Gold Energy’s parent company Asia World Corporation and its affiliated foundation, AW Foundation. The ethos of giving back and contributing to society has been embedded since our establishment in 1992, well before the construction of the Thaukyegat (2) Hydropower project in 2008 – our first renewable energy project.
CSR activities are carried out directly by the corporate entity involved in the renewable energy project, as well as through AW Foundation. Alongside environmental impact assessment, AWC’s teams first engage with local community leaders to understand their needs.
With an understanding of local conditions, the relevant corporate entities embark on CSR projects which can deliver a positive impact. Infrastructure work is often a priority. For our Renewable Energy projects, such CSR projects have included the construction of bridges at the dam area of Thaukyegat (2) and improved road connectivity in the vicinity of the solar PV projects.
Beyond connectivity, AWC and AW Foundation have donated new buildings or renovated old buildings for schools, and also provided power supply facilities to five villages near the dam project. Similarly, donations to local schools and to the local communities were carried out at the start of each solar PV project.
